The project The Last deals with the development of modular lasts for shoe production. This means that instead of requiring a separate form for each function, certain parts can be replaced modularly. In industry, old models are discarded because they are no longer useful due to certain aspects. Our goal is to develop a last that enables certain parts to be exchanged in such a way that a completely new set of lasts does not have to be produced with every change. In this way we reduce both resource and storage costs. There are advantageous possibilities in all areas of the production of custom-made mouldings, from individual production up to serial production. The presented concept of modularity focuses on flexibility and resource minimization in a highly complex manufacturing process.
